Overview
Greenwood is a small city that straddles the Jackson–Cass county line in the southeastern Kansas City metro, roughly 25 miles southeast of downtown and about 7 to 10 miles southeast of Lee's Summit. Missouri Route 150 is its main highway connection.
The town was laid out in 1867 — a Greenwood post office had operated since 1866 — and it was incorporated as a city in 1963. The 2020 Census counted 6,021 residents, and the Census Bureau estimated about 6,123 as of July 2023.

Getting Around
Missouri Route 150 is the principal east–west highway serving Greenwood, with US-50 providing the major regional connection through Lee's Summit and Route J (Smart Road) offering local access.
Lee's Summit is about 7 to 10 miles away — roughly 10 to 20 minutes — and downtown Kansas City is about 25 miles, generally 30 to 40 minutes off-peak. Kansas City International Airport (MCI) is on the opposite, far northwest side of the metro, about 45 to 50 miles away, so it's a longer drive of roughly 45 to 60 minutes.
